I know that it's freaking annoying for anyone who wants to play Battlefield: Bad Company, hell it's the reason I went out and bought a 360 (besides GTA4.) But still like most other gamers I was a little mad about this because I want to play it!!! I decided to do a little research to as exactly why Battlefield: Bad Company had been delayed, here's what I came up with.
I found an article on IGN about EA's amazing $33 Million loss during the third quarter.
| Quote: | Electronic Arts reported a net loss of $33 million in its third fiscal quarter, although the publisher's net revenue hit the $1.5 billion mark - the largest in EA's history and up 17 percent over the same period last year.
Those numbers were driven largely by sales of Need For Speed: Pro Street (the publisher's best-selling title of the quarter), FIFA 08, Rock Band, The Simpsons Game, Madden NFL 08, The Sims 2 Castaway and NBA Live 08. EA's third fiscal quarter spans October through December.
The company also announced that Battlefield: Bad Company and Mercenaries 2: World in Flames have been delayed until EA's 2009 fiscal year, which begins in April and runs through March 2009. The latter game was scheduled for an August 2008 release, and the former was set for June.
Despite recent speculation by analysts that Will Wright's Spore has been delayed yet again, EA didn't directly address the upcoming games current release schedule, saying only that the ambitious sim will be released before this year's holiday season. |
Up 17% over last year and highest revenue of all time!? Wow, most of you are looking at that saying that they should go out and release this game to make even more money! Of course that bit is on their table, but there's simple reasons to as why they wouldn't release it. abnormal
Better theory:
EA just recently put in two bids to purchase Take Two Interactive which is famous for the GTA/Bully series. Their bid was $2,000,000,000. That's a relative difference of $500,000,000 more than their profit. I'm sure they were looking at their graphs and noticing the trend. Either they could dish out the cash to release a console port of a PC game few know in the video game world -or- purchase a rival and benefit from their GTA 4 launch in about 2 months, quickly making back a lot if not all of their initial investment.
It's pretty clear, however after Take Two Interactive turned down the offers (Thank God!) EA only has Mercenaries 2, FIFA 2008, Battlefield: Bad Company to release and hopefully make an OK profit.
All together, the reason Battlefield: Bad Company was put off was because EA may have been saving to purchase Take Two Interactive. After that went south, all they have to look forward too is BF:BC, Mercenaries 2, and FIFA 2008 to revive them from their odd income level. Because of this event, this will affect all EA's upcoming releases for at least 6 - 9 months. Because Battlefield: Bad Company has been delayed to be released somewhere in EA's 2009 fiscal year which starts April 1, 2008 and runs to March 2009, that's when BF:BC will be released. While many game sites say June/July, it could be released as early as April 2008 or as late as March 2009. Hope this clears things up! _________________
