This morning, during an investor call, EA announced that Battlefield 3 will have three times as much DLC (DownLoadable Content)than it's predecessor, Bad Company 2. Bad Company 2's most notable DLC was the Vietnam pack released in late 2010. Battlefield 3's DLC was when the Back to Karkand expansion pack was announced shortly after the first Battlefield 3 trailer was released in February. The Back to Karkand expansion will include four maps from BF2, re-imagined on the powerful Frostbite 2 engine. No other content for Battlefield 3 has been announced thus far, but we can expect more maps, weapons, and features released shortly after release.

Bad Company 2 had seven packs overall, so we're expecting 21 packs of DLC to be released over Battlefield 3's lifetime. There's the possibility of content being offered on day one, seeing as Bad Company 2 did this. We may see more announcements for Battlefield 3 as E3 goes on until tomorrow.

I'm still clinging to the hope that there is some crucial piece of information that will make my trepidation melt away.

Because right now I'm reeling from the sting of disillusionment.

I hope this DLC is real DLC, not for the most part Like Bad Company 2's.

I hope this DLC wo't cost too much. I mean, at an estimated 800 MS points a map pack, that's around 200 bucks, for 21 map packs.

Unless, however, some of it's free.

It's this kind of thinking that showed me the one single factor that changed Battlefield for the worse, was the sudden shift to locking-on weapons.

I think the majority of pc dlc is ususally free, of course vietnam was like a seperate game in its self. It really depends on how much work they put into to a dlc in relation to whether its chargable or not.

Or they could take the BF2 expansion method - bring out two map packs, charge $ for people to buy them, wait 2 years, realise that no one was actually playing the maps, confuse the fuck out of everyone by including them for FREE in the last patch!

hmmmmm I think they should release Big DLC's like Bad company 2 vietnam every 6 months and charge for them, then small DLC's in between like a new weapon or game mode or maybe a new map and release that for free. If they spam DLC that is all paid, people may get the wrong idea. Or they could bring back the VIP code, and make maps, modes and guns free to those who have it, I think that worked ok.

Are you serious? Are EA selling computers now? So you're cranky because your computer dose not run BF3. There making the best posible game for the current best hardware. Does this make them greedy? No it makes the good developers. What about the people having powerful computers, don't they deserve high end games? Of curse they do. By the way I also need to upgrade my computer for BF3 but I don't complain...

The game : $$$
Ya, 60 USD, a totally fair price for a game and probably the most fun you could possible have with 60 bucks...

21 DLC : $$$$
So when you played the game for months, months and years, you don't want anything new? That's retarded. Of course we want new stuff. Free or not, I'll happily pay for new expansions!

I'm so sick of noobs like you that constantly take good news and makes it bad news by looking at it from your weird perspective. Go and play CoD or something...

Sad news...
No one asked you to upgrade your PC or buy BF3..

And BFBC2 DLC aka Vietnam map pack came with NEW weapons/maps/vehicles etc etc, Yes everything were new.. Not like "n00bs on duty" where they rip off $$$$ just for new maps..

In BFBC2, we got all maps for FREE if we pre-ordered the game.. Also in BF3 we get 4maps for free when we pr-order the game..

May be you should stop crying & go back to play COD..

i think we're forgetting something... this engine took 5 years to build, and then on top of that, the entire battlefield game was created. there have been literally tens of thousands of hours put in to this one game, compared to CoD's three and a half hours, dice's profit margin will be much narrower. They can probably squeeze out one more game before this engine is over taken, so they have to sell as much content as possible, and may end up not even breaking even... so i for one, will completely understand when a majority, if not all of the downloadable content, will not be free. although i can't see them selling many units when they are only offering to play conquest on a map rather than rush.... they will probably bundle this up with more novel content to bulk it up.

lol, you think that activision is the only company who is out there to make money? every single company, wil be looking to make as much money as possible. CoDs way of doing it is to spend capital on one game, and then spit shine it every couple of months, and get people to buy it again. to be honest, if i owned activision... this is EXACTLY what i would do, if i had that many thick, mindless children under my thumb, i would squeez them for all their parent's money... nobody can say they would do otherwise. DICE's way of making money is to build up a big fanbase, and gain fuck loads of loyalty from everyone who plays their game, they would use CoD's tactic, but scince CoD already has pretty much a 90% market share, they would quickly fail, so instead, they have chosen to put out high quality, longer lasting games, and then make up for smaller profits by putting out DLC and subsidising into other areas of video games, and i completely respect them for their decision, because it always ends up in a better deal for us, the players.

i'm a bit tired of those maps as well, but there was a good balance of jungle-ish maps on BC2, it would be nice if it was a bit more dense and untamed tho... unfortunately, most of the combat is done in urban and desert areas, so i can't really see any jungle fitting in. I can imagine plenty of new and innovative maps that BF3 will have, there is simply so many options on what to build, i'm sure they will have plenty of just paris, never mind america and the middle east, and then it would seem like too much to then go and do jungle... but maybe there will be some sort of terrain themed DLCs in the future =D

I think DLC is the worst idea ever, and I hate consoles for making it mainstream. Its bleed over into the PC, and It breaks my heart.

I'm with gunfighter again on this one.
Origin, the worst thing to happen to Battlefield since Rush.

Hopefully most DLC would be free, I don't think EA/DICE Would do VIP Again As every Map DLC was free and gave Discount on Vietnam & And Spec Act, If They will put VIP they would Probably give a 15-25% Discount on all Future DLC.

As for me i don't really much care if DLC's will Cost alot, I Will just not get them..

As long the DLC include new weapons and stuff, im okay with it.
Also, in BFBC 2 Most of the DLC are free, hope you keep this, or just dont go so far with the prices like COD does...1200Mp for a map pack?!...C´mon!

If you pre-order it, you will probably get most of the DLC for free. Probably not the big expansions like vietnam, but it's way better then CoD, and I thank DICE for that. I'm sure there will be a lot of maps with different styles of playing and modes.
